ASME NUS-NTU HDB Design Competition with the theme, “Cool Ideas for Better HDB Living” was organised on the 29 October 2011 at NUS. More than 30 teams of undergraduates from 3 universities – National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) devised out-of-the box ideas addressing issues such as noise pollution, rain, heat and maintaining the environment.
The competition was sponsored by the Housing and Development Board and co-organised by ASME NUS-NTU Student Section. The teams comprising three to five members each, spent 4 hours discussing and coming up with solutions before presenting them to a panel of judges.
10 teams were then chosen to come up with prototypes of their ideas in 16 weeks where they will be put through another round of judging. Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Minister of State, Ministry of National Development, the guest-of-honour for the event, said he was impressed by the students’ ideas. The next round of competition is expected to be held in February 2012.
