Today we had our NAE’s second ART CLASS —— Roll Out Clay. All our members gathered at the tutorial room in North Spine at around 7:30p.m. on 15/10/2009. This time we had many MSE friends came to join in our activity. A warm welcome to new members! =^_^=
Today we are going to make clay handicrafts. This does not reqire much of professional techniques, but the most important thing is CREATIVITY!! How creative are our members? Let’s check it out!
But wait, let’s do it step by step….
First, we need to choose our clay from various of colors.
Then the second step is to decide what you want to make, better have a plan then just making randomly. Somebody decided to make stranges faces, others like to make animals or flowers. No matter what you are going to make, try to distinguish your handicraft from the crowd!
After you have got a plan about how to make your own handicraft, you just begin to carry it out. Look how careful they are:
At last, we can finish our handicraft. Let’s check out what our members have make!
How lovely are these handicrafts! Can’t imagine it’s out of our own hands!
This Art Class gives us a chance to get away from the exams and quiz to have a little time to relax. Both our members and our committees have had a very wonderful making these nice little handicrafts. This is an unforgottable experience to all of us!
Thanks to our 2 photographers: Xuedong and Me~O(∩_∩)O~~
Stay tuned to find out more of NAE’s other activities! cheers!
Shadow puppet shapes are made to block some or all of the light and cast a shadow. Theme of our 5th art class was to design puppet shapes of desired and perform a show with stories written by each groups.Prior to starting the work, materials such as scissors, bamboo sticks and most importantly the “theater” made by cardboard and calligraphy paper had been prepared.
We had
“Tze Yuen’s Group”
And…
“Chian Haw’s Group”
The first step of construction was to draw the shape of the puppets on cards. Next, the design was cut out with scissors. The body of the puppet was controlled by bamboo stick or soft wires. The puppets can be attached in two ways, by either a flexible hinge or tape the bamboo stick or wire directly to the puppet with masking tape. Finally, with the scripts ready, the puppet show can be performed. Besides the screen where the puppets live their life, the angle of the light is also important. Light that comes from below, or above or the side each gives different effects. Light at a bad angle can show all of the control rods and even the puppeteer’s heads. The bulb which was our light source was put just behind the screen.
Pop-up greeting cards are a great twist on the ordinary greeting card. They are enormously fun to create, and the recipient of your card will be delighted because most people don’t expect to see something pop out at them when they open a handmade card. So, let’s do something for your beloved one!
Materials:
colored paper ( hard)
pencil
scissors
markers, crayons or colored pencils
envelope
ruler
glue stick
Steps:
Cut out a rectangular piece of the colored paper. Make it card-sized.
Fold it in half, short sides together.
Make a little support for your pop up, which will be glued to the middle of the cards.
Decide what you want to pop up. It could be a picture of a gift, or a name, or a heart, or anything that takes your fancy.
Cut out your pop-up shape and glue it on to the support.
