NTU Institutional Archery Championship 2009

The NTU Institutional Archery Championship 2009 hosted by NTU Archery Club was held at the end of NTU’s recess week, 28th February and 1st March. NTU Archery Club has put in much effort into the Institutional Archery Championship 2009 (IAC 2009) to ensure success and comfort for our guests cum competitors. The event was held at the rugby field near the Sports and Recreational Center and Hall of Residence 6. The participants for IAC 2009 were institutions such as National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, Singapore Institute of Management, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic and ITE College West.

The preparation day started on Friday 27th February with the craziest weather ever, where our energetic team members toiled under the blazing sun. Within half a day, all the target boards were transported to the venue and neatly arranged for the competition before the participants gathered for several rounds of sighters later on in the evening. Tables and chairs under the tents were all neatly put up for the comfort of our visitors. With much appreciation to our Business Manager, Teng Jin Juan for her hard work, we have managed to secure goodie bags filled to the brim sponsored by various kind companies who have kindly agreed to offer their assistance in the event. In the package included (to the guys’ horror), pretty cardboard drawers with Kotex pads, NeWater to hydrate ourselves, the goodie bag itself and a towel from Singapore Crime Prevention Council to clean ourselves, skincare and facial product samples for our physical well-being since we archers are exposed to the sun almost all the time, and many other vouchers for dining and more. We have also been rescued from being combusted during the competition by the generous supply of the chilled lip-smacking H2O and thus did not have to worry about quenching our thirst during the competition.

The event started on the next day with the seniors’ showdown first thing in the morning. It was the Qualifying round for the intermediate and open category, shooting for the male and female best distance, and the chance to compete in the Individual Knock-Outs (IKO), Team Knock-Outs (TKO) and the Mixed Team Knock-Outs (MTKO) events which were to be held the following day. Following which, in the afternoon, it was time for the novice category where juniors had the first chance ever to experience the thrill of taking part in such an event.

The following day was the Knock-Out rounds where teams supported each other, cheering with much zest and zeal. The event was made smooth and enjoyable also with special thanks to Jason’s jolly “emceeing” and the rest of our dedicated recreational archers for their help on the day itself as well as for the preparations. The staff from Slender Shapes even came down to patronize our event and wish us the best. NTU Archery Club would like to thank everybody who participated in the event on way or another for making this event a success.
