NTU-NUS Exchange

On the morning of 31th December, our archers gathered early at our prided range to set up our equipment and get ready to welcome the NUS archers, who were making their way down for the NUS@NTU exchange. By about 9.30am, the NUS team arrived, set up their equipment and the archers of both universities warmed up to each other before the combined team warm up commenced.
After the warm ups, our team captain gave us a quick briefing on the agenda for the day, which consisted of 3 parts – the team league event, light physical training afterward and finally, lunch! All the archers were first organized into 12 teams, with a good mix of NUS and NTU archers per team of 3, and the team league event kicked off almost immediately after the teams were assigned to their respective target boards.

It was originally planned that some light physical training would follow after the first event. However, by the time we were done with the team league event, it was almost 1pm, stomachs were growling for attention and the afternoon heat was scorching, which led to physical training being cancelled!

So, we trooped over to the area outside the Hall 6 function room and dismantled our bows before settling down for a buffet style catered lunch comprising a savoury variety of dishes – fried fish slices with mayonnaise, lemon chicken, fried rice, oyster sauce vegetables, sotong balls and a platter of fruits and flavoured drinks. From there, there was more mingling, random photograph taking and exchanging of contacts.

After clearing up, we gathered around and our team captain said a few words of thanks before initiating the presentation of souvenirs. The souvenirs were slim hand-sized pen lights with “Nanyang Technological University” and our university logo printed on it. Feedback was that the souvenirs were a very practical gift as the NUS Archery Team has trainings at night and in any case that they miss a shot, a torchlight would come in very handy. After more words of thanks from the NUS archers and whilst still gushing over the souvenir, we were all ushered to a slightly more scenic spot for a group photo to end the day. Soon after, final goodbyes were said and the next time we’d see each other again would be at the NTU Institutional Archery Championship 2009.
