Resume writing workshop was convened on Monday, 19 May 2014, between 9:00am to 12:00 noon in Tan Chin Tuan Lecture Theatre. About 120 attendants participated in this event which helped students to prepare for the job interviews at various levels. Primarily this was meant to create more preparedness for the campus recruitment event, exclusively for the Post graduate students, organized by CAO.
The entire workshop broadly consisted of two sections:
• Resume Writing
• Interview Skills
Participants gained insight into the nuts and bolts of what constitutes a winning resume. The focus was on form, structure, content, and writing styles and pitching based on the nature of the job. By the end of the first section, participants got an idea of how to use form and structure to make the resume visually appealing and draw recruiters’ eyes to essential sections, what to include in each resume component, and the impact of various resume wording styles.
In the second segment, participants learnt tips on what constitutes an effective interview. They explored the impact of interview etiquette, phrasing of answers, and non-verbal communications such as professional dress, eye contact & body language. Through a 1:2 demonstration, participants have had the opportunity to see in-action the interview techniques.
