The graduate student council (GSC) were represented for the first time by graduate teams in the “Street Soccer” and “Street basketball” tournaments in the NTU Sports Challenge 2016 mega event conducted by the NTU Sports Club on the 23rd of this month. This was a monumental step taken by GSC Social & Recreation Committee to promote more graduate student participation in competitive sporting events. GSC even took care of the funds required for the teams to register and participate in the events.

Both the soccer and basketball teams gave it their all and represented the GSC well in the events. The basketball team were eliminated in the group stages while the GSC street soccer team fared much better and even fought their way to the tournament finals with gritty determination and skilful play, where they gave the champions ‘MK for President’ a run for their money in a closely fought match. On a different day, Team GSC could have come out as the winners but alas they had to settle for a still impressive second place. A big round of applause for the highly successful Team GSC Street Soccer team members- Ahmed (Captain), Bali, John, Deepak, Karim and Murshid. Hopefully next year, the graduate teams can go a step further and win not only the “Street Soccer” tournament but also win the other sporting events that are conducted in NTU Sports Challenge 2017.
