These are the key appointment holders of the council and represent the highest level of leadership.

It is composed of the President, Executive Vice-President, Vice-President (Welfare and Policy), Vice-President (Communications and External Relations), Honorary General Secretary, and Honorary Treasurer. They are expected to be very knowledgeable and aware of most of the issues affecting the graduate student community. They are to maintain a close working relationship and consult regularly with the council advisory committee. If any of the “Top 6” uses a veto, the remainder 5 key appointment holders can jointly overturn the veto.

President: Fan Zhi’An

Fan Zhi’An graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) degree in 2016. At present, Zhi’An is a research analyst with the International Centre of Political Violence and Terrorism Research (ICPVTR) at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS). He is also concurrently studying for his Master’s degree at RSIS. In his free time, he volunteers occasionally for the Youth Executive Committee at the Serangoon Community Club.

VP executive: Huang Tan

Huang Tan graduated from Jinan University at Guangzhou with a Bachelor Degree in Science. At undergraduate years, he did some work on genetic engineering of microalgae for biofuel production. Currently, he is a doctorate student at Energy Research Institute @NTU, Interdisciplinary Graduate School. At leisure time, he loves to play badminton, reading various books.

VP welfare and Policy: Elham Bagheri

Elham Bagheri received her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering (Bioelectric) from Amirkabir University of Technology in Iran.  She obtained SINGA scholarship to pursue her post-graduate studies. She is currently a Ph.D. Student in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Nanyang Technological University, working under supervision of Assoc. Prof. Justin Dauwels. Her research interests include computational neuroscience, machine learning and computational intelligence.

VP of Communications and Ext. Relations: Zhang Penghui

Zhang Penghui graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China with a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering and Technology) degree in 2014. Currently, Penghui is a doctorate student in School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering and pursuing his PhD under the supervision of Prof Chan Bee Eng Mary, funded by NTU-Wageningen Joint Program. His research is focused on valuable food ingredient separation and water purification with advanced materials and technologies.

Honorary Secretary: Li Zhengmao

Zhengmao is a first year Ph.D candidate in School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering  (EEE) at under Asst. Prof Xu Yan. His current research interest lies in power system specifically on Optimal planning and operation of combined cooling heat and power (CCHP) systems in future energy networks. Besides his PhD, he has been actively involved in the reading and swimming, his goal for life is to stay humorous, hardworking and energetic.

Honorary Treasurer: Iuna Tsyrulneva

Iuna graduated from Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, Ukraine, with a master’s degree in Chemistry. She has experience of working as a Chemistry Engineer and a lecturer at University. Currently, she works under supervision of Prof. Bo Liedberg on the development of a biosensor of fatigue that can be implemented for constant monitoring of stress level within aged people or sportsmen. Vibrant NTU atmosphere inspired Iuna to contribute to the students’ community by establishing NTU Society of Young Researchers and publishing a magazine that describes bright personalities of NTU graduate students.
