ABOUT
Challenge ur Limits (CurL) is a special project brought to you by Nanyang Technological University
(NTU) Welfare Services Club
(WSC).
The Welfare Services Club is an associate member of National Council of Social Services
(NCSS) with over 500 NTU student volunteers actively involved in diverse areas of community work.
Besides providing weekly regular services to 11 welfare organisations, the Club also undertake special projects such as CurL, to promote unconventional means of volunteerism.
WSC was the recipient of the Singapore Youth Award 2006 (Medal of Commendation) as well as the President’s Social Service Award 2008 (informal group category) for sustained efforts in community service.
With a main event organised each year, CurL’s main objective is to create opportunities for beneficiaries and volunteers to interact and participate in exciting activities that will challenge both their mental and physical limits. CurL also engages in various activities prior to this main event (eg: RSP visits, canvassing events).
CurL aims to reach out to people without prior volunteering experience, thus serving as a platform for them to embark on future volunteering activities. We aim to showcase to the public that our beneficiaries are capable too, of doing their part for the society. We also hope to increase the public’s awareness of the beneficiaries' abilities.

EVENT 2011
The upcoming project will consist the creating of mini-ecosystems. We aim to challenge the mental and physical limits of our beneficiaries (Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PWIDs)) and at the same time, foster bonds between them and the volunteers.
In the process of attaining their goals, participants will be able to understand the fragility of the environment, and appreciate the earth that we reside in. Also, interactions between volunteers and beneficiaries will create an opportunity for the younger generation to gain more knowledge about volunteerism.
The self-made mini-ecosystem showcases our beneficiaries’ potential talents and capabilities. It also portrays how we have a direct impact on our environment, and hence calls for our awareness.
Through this, we also hope to educate the public that even in the midst of Singapore's success, we should never forget the existence of the less unfortunate ones in this same society.
CurL’11 endeavours to:
- Allow the participants to overcome their own mental and physical limitations and not be constrained.
- Provide a platform for community service beyond the conventional volunteering activities.
- Create opportunities for interaction between beneficiaries and volunteers.
- Raise public awareness of the beneficiaries' abilities and promote a more inclusive society.
- Reach out and benefit as many beneficiaries as we can.
- Highlight the significance of environmental conservation among the beneficiaries and public volunteers.
