Community Involvement Programme

CIP organizes regular visits to RCHD and two festive celebrations. Read more.

CIP stands for Community Involvement Programme. What does CIP do? Firstly, we have regular visitation to the Red Cross Home for the Disabled (RCHD). Situated at Family Link @ Lengkok Bahru, RCHD currently provides long-term residential services and short-term respite care to around eighty severely disabled residents between the age of 8 and 61. The purpose of this visitation is to befriend with the residents. We can talk and share with them just like how we talk to our friends. Then, we can also play with them. Besides that, we can help the nurses to feed them and many other activities that we can do in the home.

Secondly, we organize two festive celebrations, Chinese New Year Celebration @ RCHD and Christmas Celebration for the old folks at HCA Hospice Care. HCA Hospice Care is a palliative care centre for patients with life-limiting illness. Both of these festive celebrations intend to bring joy to the residents at RCHD and patients at the HCA Hospice Care.

Finally, CIP would be responsible to create awareness for public to join this visitation. You will learn new experience and realize that there are some people that really need our care and affection. It is an experience unlike what we normally face in our life; may be an eye opening experience for some people. If you want to learn something new and meaningful or if you are caring, loving, and willing to sacrifice a bit of your time for those in need of care and affection, then this is the portfolio for you.

One is not born to do everything, but to do something, and for the residents, it is to be there for them.

First Aid portfolio is responsible for providing first aid support for events, be it in or off-campus and preparing members towards first aid coverage. We arrange for members to take the Standard First Aid (SFA) course and for more active members, in advanced courses such as Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and CPR + Automated External Defibrillation (AED). Furthermore, we have occasional first aid trainings to enhance and update the first aid skills of our members, which covers not just bandaging and CPR, but also on transportation and steps to use AED.

There are many types of event varying in nature, that we cover, which includes Run Round Singapore organized by Alumni Affairs Office in conjunction with the 55th anniversary of NTU in 2010, X-Campus Run, NTU Street Challenge, Bike Rally and Surf n Sweat by NTU Sports Club, and Kids’ World Camp and Luv-a-thon by Welfare Services Club.

Besides that, we organize an annual event, known as One Life Saved. Aimed to promote the awareness and interest in importance of first aid amongst NTU population, we expose students to several lessons in first aid at different emergency scenarios, through a race around campus. Although there are three such events held so far, all of those who participated fully enjoyed the program, especially the opportunity to experience one day as a first aider!

If you think making a difference in a person’s life is the thing for you and don’t mind committing your hours, especially during emergency-related situations, be part of our team of calm, collected first aiders in First Aid Portfolio!

Fund Raising

FR is responsible for raising funds for various Red Cross events. Read more.

The fundraising portfolio of the Red Cross Humanitarian Network, NTU Chapter, is where creativity and passion meets. Being responsible for the funding of various events and beneficiaries in Red Cross, the fund raising committee are responsible to raise funds through campaigns and projects. Organizing these activities allows us to explore our creativity and develop our interpersonal skills.

Other than just collecting funds to support Red Cross activities within the country, we have to always be alert and ready. When massive disasters struck other countries, us fundraising committee will hold an emergency fundraising campaign called “Operation Moving Hearts”. Through this campaign, we hope to collect as much funds as possible, from the NTU population. The funds collected are directed to Singapore Red Cross, where it will be used for the relief effort of the victims.

As fundraising committee, we may not directly be as involved with beneficiaries or the disaster victims However our role and passion in Red Cross are as strong as the other portfolios. We act as a channel for the NTU population to contribute back to the society. We hope that NTU will keep on supporting our events and make a difference in the lives of others.

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

International and Special Projects

ISP deals with international and special projects in Red Cross Humanitarian Network-NTU Chapter. Read more.

In year 2010, the International and Special Projects team had carried out the continuation of Project Kasih ’09. In this Project Kasih ’10, we had the opportunity to experience the rural life of the Niasan people. In Nias island, we taught the orphans basic English lessons, Geography lessons, the human digestive system, Mathematics lessons and basic First Aid skills. To increase interaction with the children, we had recreational games where the team entertained the children with magic games and science experiments. Furthermore, we also managed to refurbish the playground in the orphanage with the local’s help.

In the Livelihood Training Center, the team contributed by helping out in the farm. Through the planting activities in the farm, the team gained exposure of the local community’s living and developed deeper ties with each other. We also had hands-on experiences in doing simple landscaping for the training center and replacing wooden bridge for the orphanage under the guidance of the training center’s personnel. These experiences had indeed become our eye-opener and helped us to be more grateful for what we have.

Through this project, the team had not only achieved the mission of the project – extend the helping hand to the local community, but also fulfilled the greater objective of the Red Cross Humanitarian Network – promoting humanitarian values in ourselves to further contribute to the society.

Publicity and IT

PIT acts as a bridge between the RCHN NTU Chapter and the NTU students by creating awareness about the chapter’s events. Read more.

The PIT portfolio helps to create a bridge between the RCHN NTU Chapter and the NTU students by promoting the chapter’s events. An event’s success depends on student participation, which is why we are responsible for making sure that everybody knows about all our events. A lot of publicizing tools are used in accomplishing the objectives. Some of the best are flyer, banner, poster, website, mass mail, and video advertising. To implement all of them, we need a lot of help. We need designer, to make sure that our advertisement is actually eye-catching. We need web master to keep our website (http://clubs.ntu.edu.sg/redcross) updated. We also need photographer & writer, to make sure every event is covered. And most of all, we need main power to spread the news to whole NTU populations. Moreover, we are also in charged of doing the name card and tee design for whole RCHN NTU Chapter.
